The start of a new year often leads people to want to make better decisions about their health and wellbeing. Getting more exercise, losing weight, living mindfully, and giving up bad habits are top of the agenda for many people in January. So, what do you do if you have a wedding or event planned for the month where everyone wants to stick to their new year’s resolutions? Here, Annah Ward event planner at Mosborough Hall in Sheffield has some healthy event ideas to help you and your guests keep those good intentions.

“Why not use January as inspiration for approaching events with a healthy mindset all year round?” begins Annah.  There are lots of reasons why taking a healthier approach to events can be beneficial no matter what time of year it is. Keeping guests focused and motivated by serving up the right food at a corporate event, including meat-free vegetarian or vegan catering at a wedding or private party. Plus, it make it more sustainable. Here are some of healthy event ideas can take the enthusiasm of a healthy January into events for rest of year.”

SUPERCHARGE PRODUCTIVITY WITH THE BEST MEAL OF THE DAY

Many people find they focus much better in the mornings and it’s proven that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, when it comes to brain power. All the more reason why morning is actually a brilliant time for a business meeting or event. Where you’ll catch people at their brightest and most motivated.

Why not schedule your next business event as a breakfast meeting? Instead of serving up biscuits and strong coffee, your breakfast event catering could offer delegates a supercharged brain-boosting breakfast. Platters of fresh fruit, yoghurt with granola, smoked salmon bagels, smashed avocado on sourdough or smoothie bowls.  Healthy meeting menus that provide the hit of nutrients needed to keep guests on track and fuelled for focus.

Chai seeds and avocado are rich in Omega-3 and essential fats which are brilliant for brains. Nuts (especially walnuts), pumpkin seeds and blueberries are all renowned for helping enhance those brain cells too.

Take your healthy event ideas beyond just healthy meeting food.  Kick things off with a morning yoga or tai chi session. Given that exercise can also aid productivity, this will mean your meeting is even more effective.

To ensure good hydration.  Offer green or herbal teas over traditional tea and coffees. Fruit infused water or fruit juice (just easy on the sugar). Or to supercharge your healthy meeting refreshments, you could even opt for coconut water. It’s the latest food to be given superfood status, which is naturally high in electrolytes and antioxidants.

TAKE THE MEAT OUT OF MEETINGS AND WEDDINGS

Pescatarian, flexitarian, vegetarian and climatarian diets are all becoming more popular dietary choices.  With many people giving up meat for environmental and health-related reasons.

The annual Veganuary challenge often sees people giving up meat for the month of January.  But with diets diversifying all year round, organising an event with entirely meat free catering is unlikely to raise as many eyebrows as it would have done in the past. In fact, vegan event catering is becoming one of Mosborough Hall’s most requested options. And we now offer an entirely vegan menu for weddings and corporate events in Sheffield.

Vegan food, when done properly, can look completely enticing. A rainbow of delicious and healthy dishes. Whatever genre of food you’re considering most will translate into mouth-watering vegan menus.  So why not experiment at your next event and leave the meat behind.

TAKE A BREATH OF FRESH AIR

The benefits of spending time outdoors go way beyond limiting the spread of coronavirus, it’s good for digestion, strengthens the immune system and can make you happier.

One upshot of the pandemic is that we’ve all got used to spending more time in the great outdoors.

And having been told to avoid indoor service during the pandemic many event and wedding venues have upgraded their outdoor spaces.  Meaning there is so much more on offer for those wanting an outdoor event venue. Tipi tents (with open sides), and covered areas will guard against the worst that the weather can throw at us. Heating, seating, and al fresco dining spaces are now standard at most wedding and event venues.  So why not take advantage and hold your next event outside – whatever the weather.

At Mosborough Hall we are no exception. We have completely overhauled our outdoor dining space to include a gorgeous dining terrace and private dining pavilion.  For people looking for a historic wedding venue in Sheffield, with an outdoor wedding space and beautiful wedding rooms, we hit the mark. FOCUS ON MENTAL WELLBEING

Mental health is quite rightly firmly on the agenda as we head into 2022, so if you’re organising a healthier event, bringing in some elements that encourage good mental wellbeing could be a great idea.

For a well-being corporate event you could create breakout spaces, where delegates can sample some complementary therapies such as aromatherapy, reiki, or reflexology.

Fuse indoor/outdoor activities by introducing a ‘mindful garden’ where guests can take part in activities such as planting flowers, or simply enjoy relaxing outside. There are even events that have a dedicated ‘napping’ zone, so that delegates can rest and recharge, ready to take on the rest of the day.

Hire a venue with gardens or forest walks such as our sister hotels in Sheffield - Kenwood Hall and Whirlow Brook Hall.  With lakes and parkland in proximity, guests here can spend time outside enjoying in natural world.

BRAIN FOOD

Take stodgy carbs off the menu when planning a healthy event menu. Pastry, potatoes, and pasta are affordable and can be comforting in the cold months.  But they’re certain to leave your party sluggish and in need of some shut eye. Swap them out for healthier alternatives such as a vegetable curries, big colourful salads full of nutrients or individual bento boxes or rice bowls. Sushi is a great catering idea for healthy events.  It’s light yet filling and full of Omega-3 and fatty acids that help to increase brain function.

COVID-SAFE

Of course, another way to organise a healthy event is to make sure it is covid safe. Here at Mosborough Hall, we have taken some steps in order to protect our guests and colleagues, whilst still ensuring you receive that warm, Yorkshire welcome and hospitality. Our rooms are set out to observe social distancing and we’ve enhanced our cleaning protocols.

All events now have designated breakout areas to limit the build-up of infectious particles in the air. And we’re still utilising sanitisation stations and one-way systems to protect you too.

Thanks for sharing our Healthy Event Ideas for the New Year!
